Self-Preparation for the Pre-Medical Journey

Introduction—What is the AAMC?

The AAMC is the Association of American Medical Colleges. This is a governing body for US MD-granting medical schools.  They offer tons of resources and are the definitive body for aspiring MDs.  The material they provide is vast and includes information for aspiring medical students, current medical students, residents, fellows, and practicing attendings.

What Can the AAMC Provide to Aspiring Medical Students?

They provide information about all MD-granting medical school applicants and matriculants.  They have resources for anyone pursuing medical education.  In other words, definitely check them out.  You don’t have to rely exclusively on your pre-medical advising office or on others who have just completed the journey.  By utilizing these resources you can be much better informed.

Conclusion

The AAMC is a valuable resource for medical student hopefuls. They have resources to guide those looking to begin their medical education journey and also have resources for each step of medical education. See some helpful links below.

Links

Here are two links to the AAMC, which may help you do some work on your own.

This first link is entitled Your Journey from Premed Through Residency

This next link is to the AAMC’s Medical School Admission Requirements™ (MSAR®) for Applicants page, which includes a link to “buy” a free digital copy of The Official Guide to Medical School Admissions: How to Prepare for and Apply to Medical School.

While these are links with great information, they cannot substitute meeting with your institution’s advising office.
